What is the maximum on Spirit of Queenstown?

The maximum capacity on Spirit of Queenstown is 150 passengers.


What is the maximum on Queenstown Discovery?

The maximum capacity on Queenstown Discovery is 30 passengers.


Where on Lake Wakatipu can we cruise?

Southern Discoveries has the flexibility to cruise anywhere on Lake Wakatipu, including the Frankton Arm, Bob’s Cove, Mt Nicholas High Country Farm or Glenorchy.  View our suggested cruise routes here.


How long can I charter Spirit of Queenstown for?

The minimum length of the cruise on Spirit of Queenstown is 1.5 hours and the maximum on board Spirit of Queenstown is usually 3 hours.


How long can I charter Queenstown Discovery for?

The minimum length of a charter on Queenstown Discovery is 1.5 hours and if requested can be chartered for the whole day.


What food and beverage options are available on Sprit of Queenstown?

Spirit of Queenstown has a fully licenced bar and our events team can help you tailor a catering package to suit your group’s needs. View examples of our onboard catering options here.


What food and beverage options are available on Queenstown Discovery?

Queenstown Discovery is fully licensed with an onboard barbeque. Choose to bring your own (BYO) food and/or alcohol, or let us take care of the catering with delectable menus from some of Queenstown’s best caterers. View examples of our onboard catering options here.


Is smoking permitted on board Southern Discoveries vessels?

Smoking is not permitted on Southern Discoveries charters, all our vessels are smoke free.


Can we fish during our cruise?

We offer fishing charters on board Queenstown Discovery. View further information here. Fishing onboard Spirit of Queenstown is not possible. Fishing licenses are required, these can be obtained via the New Zealand Game & Fish website, or we can assist with organising licences. Fishing onboard Spirit of Queenstown is not possible.


Can Southern Discoveries vessels provide hotel pick-ups?

Queenstown Discovery can pick-up guests from Matakauri Lodge. Depending on the level of the lake, it may also be able to pick-up guests from other lakeside hotels, on a case-by-case basis. Spirit of Queenstown is not able to provide hotel pick-ups.

 


Where does Spirit of Queenstown depart from?

Spirit of Queenstown departs from St Omer Wharf, 110 Beach Street, Queenstown.


Where does Queenstown Discovery depart from?

Queenstown Discovery can depart from either the Main Town Pier, Marine Parade or St Omer Wharf, 110 Beach Street, Queenstown.


Are we allowed to jump into the lake and swim?

By law, the skipper of the vessel is legally responsible for the safety of guests onboard. As a matter of safety, guests are not permitted to jump off our vessels and swim.


Is it possible to charter boats in Milford Sound as well?

Southern Discoveries has charter options available in Milford Sound, please contact events@southerndiscoveries.co.nz for more information.
